Trained early childhood staff devise
age appropriate programs for each room. The programs
are written fortnightly during a dedicated planning
time for the trained staff members. This time is used
to evaluate the previous program and change, extend
or add new experiences and activities for the following
week.
The program is written in a table
like format and displayed in each room for families
and staff to view.
All programs are based on the centre
philosophy, goals, and individual observations. The
children are observed throughout the year on a rotating
basis using what we call “the focus child system”.
Observations are written in anecdotal
format as the child engages in an activity, photos are
taken depicting skills and development, art work is
collated and conversations are documented.
These observations not only assist
the staff in developing programs, but they make up a
profile on each child. This profile is available for
families to take home at the end of each year.
On a daily basis we provide a Day
Book. This has written documentation of the day and
photos to show what activities were enjoyed. The focus
and skills based learning is also depicted in the Day
Book. Family input is also important, so we ask for
the input of our families in a comment section each
day in our Day Book.
Guest speakers
We regularly invite guest speakers
to visit us. This helps provide the children with practical
advice and education on a range of topics. Some of our
visitors include:
- Police
- Fire Brigade
- Dentist
